The environmental impact of a wooden pallet is five times lower than that of a plastic one and it is more reusable than cardboard pallets. This is confirmed by a study by Pennsylvania State University, which found extremely favourable results for wooden pallets in terms of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions: the life of EUR EPAL pallets contributes to significantly mitigating the greenhouse effect. In fact, each individual pallet removes a total of 18.4 kg of carbon dioxide equivalent from the atmosphere.
In 2010 alone, 1,229,432 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent were removed from the atmosphere, of which 108,893 tonnes were in Italy. This means that, thanks to EUR EPAL pallets, greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to the energy needs of a city like Rome are offset annually in Europe.

Meanwhile, the conversion of our affiliates’ vehicles to Euro 7 standards is proceeding at a steady pace.
For One Express, green pallets also means offsetting our emissions by planting trees in our affiliates’ territories. This project, which we have called One Forest, is still ongoing with the Natù association, which has been active since 2020 in donating trees to Italian municipalities. Natù has helped us to raise awareness of the initiative in schools and communities where we have branches, and above all among our affiliates.
Involving young people and their families in these environmental issues is essential for a decarbonised future.
